Notes: writer describes her daughter's childhood on a Montana sheep ranch and this small book is both sufficiently spirited and touching to perhaps become a minor classic. Louise (""Wezie""), born well after two older brothers, was the delight of the ranch. Gay and loving, she was forever mothering stray animals to which her own mother tried to keep her from becoming too attached. These included a wild goose, a baby antelope, sheep dog puppies, an orphan ram, 40 dependent turkeys and a sow and her brood. Most affecting of all was Wezie's relation to Patches, a pony she finally outgrew. All of these stories are told with liveliness and humor and present a charming picture of ranch life which should appeal to all ages.
